EXTERNAL SENDER WARNING FOR EMAIL SENDER BEGINS MAY 24th 2022

As part of the University’s ongoing data security efforts, an email banner warning will be implemented on external email to visually cue recipients that the message is from an external sender.  Alerting WSU recipients that the message is from someone outside WSU can play a vital role in protecting against threats caused by inadvertently clicking malicious links, opening potentially dangerous attachments, and responding to phishing emails sent by external senders.

When this will happen:

Beginning Thursday, May 24th, at 8 p.m., Information Technology Services (ITS) will include an external sender warning at the top of email messages received from senders external to Washington State University (WSU).

How this will affect your organization:

An example of the external sender warning that will be included at the top of external email messages is shown below.  When you see an email message with this banner make sure you know the sender and are expecting the content of the message before clicking on a link or opening an attachment.

All affected groups: WSU email users

All processes affected: WSU email

Follow up steps customers need to take: None
